The Tourist Police Volunteers was established in October 2005 with the help of Steve Graham, the Managing Director of ESC (Thailand) Co., Ltd, The City Lodge and The Irish Clock. Steve used his own money to pay for the training, uniforms, radios and safety equipment necessary for the Volunteers to perform their duties. In their turn, the Volunteers donated free time and effort to assist the Tourist Police in their work. Many Volunteers also devoted their nights so that they would be there to help tourists in trouble. The Tourist Police Volunteers do not receive any form of government funding and everybody works on a purely voluntary basis. Even now and in spite of the recent increase in tourism to the Udon Thani area, no provision has yet been made to help finance the Tourist Police Volunteers.

Currently, we have Tourist Police Volunteers who are fluent in English, Hebrew, Chinese and Japanese. We also have Western Volunteers who have the ability to converse in German, Swedish and French. You can be sure that you are not alone in the Land of Smile.
